AI skills

Agent skills that find the right icon name for the Icon component, and draw new icons in the Boring Icons style.

Two agent skills come with the icons:

  • find-icons searches the set by meaning, so your coding agent finds delete when it looks for "trash" and settings when it looks for "cog", then renders it with the Icon component.
  • boring-icons draws the icons the set doesn't have yet. It gives your agent the style of Boring Icons, measured from the set itself, and a way to check each new icon next to the real ones before it's done.

Install

In Claude Code, install the isbatak-icons plugin, which bundles both:

/plugin install isbatak-icons --marketplace isBatak/isbatak-labs

For Codex, Cursor and the other agents the skills CLI supports, add them with:

npx skills add isBatak/isbatak-labs --skill find-icons --skill boring-icons

It asks which agents to install to, or pass -a codex to pick one. Add -g to install them for every project.

Find an icon

Ask your agent for UI that needs icons, for example "add a delete button to each row". find-icons runs a search with one query per icon, picks names from the results, and renders them with the Icon from your framework's UI package. When nothing matches, it says so and offers the closest icon or drawing a new one with boring-icons.

Draw an icon

boring-icons comes with two scripts that render Boring's own icons next to the ones it draws. They need a few dev dependencies and Playwright's browser:

npm install --save-dev @boring-icons/react react react-dom playwright
npx playwright install chromium

Ask your agent for the icon you need, for example "draw a rocket icon in the Boring style". The skill then:

  1. Checks that the set doesn't already cover it under another name (close, not x).
  2. Prints the paths of the closest Boring icons and borrows their geometry, like the folder or file frame.
  3. Draws the icon on the same grid.
  4. Renders it next to those icons at 96, 24 and 16px, on light and dark, and redraws until it matches at 24px.

What it knows

  • Grid and stroke. A 24px grid with a 1.5 stroke, round caps and joins, and mostly whole-number coordinates.
  • Shapes. Square frames on 4 to 20, circles of radius 9, square corners, straight lines and 45° diagonals, and curves only where the subject is round.
  • Detail. A silhouette plus one or two inner marks, with deliberate gaps in the outline where a mark needs room.
  • Variants. -filled icons, -duotone icons with a 20% tint under the outline, and letter badges like the ai-* icons.
  • Third-party icons. Restyling icons from Tabler or Lucide to match: stroke 1.5 and square frames.

The media controls, text formatting, image cropper and other icons added to fill in this set were drawn with it.
